Venison for dinner

"Men have become the tools of their tools."
- Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)
White Tailed Deer
Venison on the hoof

Venison (the meat of deer) is high in protein, vitamins and minerals but, more importantly, it lacks the antibiotics, synthetic hormones and steroids found in cattle.

Surprisingly, a 3 ½ ounce serving of ground beef has 140% of the calories, 323% of the fat and 225% percent of the cholesterol in an equivalent serving of venison.

Chicken and turkey contain fewer calories and less fat than venison, but venison still has less cholesterol than both white meats. Also, beef, pork, and lamb products are treated with radiation.

Though some markets carry alternative meats, reasonably priced venison, bison, mutton, as well as more exotic meats are most easily accessible on the net.

If we must eat our fellow creatures, it is really a much kinder process to let them have a free and unconfined existence until the end rather than to raise them expressly for slaughter in a world of mass production space-saving metal boxes, fed through tubes, and denied all semblance of comfort and affection.
